Indian food comes under the top 5 best cuisine in the world. There are very few people left in the world that do not have knowledge about Indian cuisine.  Many famous chefs around the world have applauded and appreciated the flavours of Indian food. They have travelled to India to know more about the food culture. Some have opened an Indian restaurant in upper Sturt.

Indian food facts-

Food in India is now for the “Rasas” and “Doshas”. Rasa means taste in the Sanskrit language. It guides the tongue. The balance or imbalance of the Rasas affects the Doshas in the body.  In a nutshell, whatever we eat is thought to cause or cure the ailments. Thus, food has been as much an art form as a science in our culture which revolves around an enjoyable culinary practice.

The Indian food has 6 tastes- Salty (lavana), Sweet (madhura), Pungent (katu), Bitter (tikta), Sour (amala) and Astringent (kasya).

Gulab Jamun- these amazing deep-fried ricotta balls first existed in the Mediterranean region. It was called Luqmat al Qadi much before they arrived in India. You can find this dish at an Indian restaurant in Coromandel valley.

Samosa- This savoury dish existed as Sambosa in the Middle East.  It really existed much before the 13th, 14th century when it found its way to India. The Indian take away in Blackwood will give you a taste of “Samosa”.

Spices- We all know that India is the largest producer of spices in the world. It is the home to one of the hottest chili in the world. In everyday meals, chilli is the most widely used spice. The saffron though is not originated from India.
