Apart from the usual accompaniments like
raita, achaar (pickle) and chutneys, other accompaniments go well with Indian
food. You can find them in some of the Indian restaurants in Australia very
easily.
Papaddam-

of peeled gram flour. It is roasted, fried or cooked with dry heat. The flour
is made from lentil, rice, chickpeas, etc. They are head either as an
appetizer, as a snack or goes best with a
proper meal of rice, delicious daal, and vegetables. Some even put toppings
like onion, tomato, lemon, and chilli and have the papad slices.
Vinegar
or pickled onion- Small onion dipped in vinegar
makes creates a different smell and taste of it. If done rightly, it goes
superbly well with every bite of Indian meal you take. This type of onion can
be found in an Indian restaurant in Coromandel valley and many other restaurants. Along with chilli and pickles,
you will find a set ready for every table. This is just like having sauces,
oregano, chilli flakes kept ready in a Pizza outlet.
Lassi-
There are two types of lassi you can have. The sweet
and the salted versions. It is made out of yogurt and is a very cooling drink
for the stomach. You could even order a mix of both sweet and salt as per your
likes. It is quite a filling drink so order it accordingly. You will find it
among the best Indian food in Mitcham.
Revisiting
the chutneys- There is Indian gooseberry chutney
that has a tangy and spice taste with a tinge of sweetness. Considered as the
healthiest dish, they can be had with flatbread and vegetable curries of any
kind. There are hundreds of chutneys and the most famous are tomato, coconut,
garlic and coriander mint chutney that is pretty famous.
Pickles-
Apart from the famous mango pickle from India,
there are many kinds of pickles served with Indian dishes. The much known ones
are the chilli pickle, lemon pickle, mixed vegetable pickle, almond pickle and
many more. The pickles have salt that is used as preservatives that makes them
last for years!
Try some of these accompaniments with your main
meal- lunch or dinner- and see the difference. Although many do not like to mix
different tastes in one bite, in India it is had in that way only. Order an Indian take away in Blackwood and try
them.
